Connecting Canadians
  • Have We Reached Our Goal
3
Why Do We Need To Reach This Goal
  • From Novelty to Necessity
  • The Stats Canada Journey to an Information report says it this way:
  • Information and Communications Technologies will be critical to the future competitiveness of rural Canada in the 21st Century, as technology takes on a new role of networking supply chains, creating expert knowledge systems, and developing new business systems
4
Lets Look At The Statistics
5
What Will It Take To Get There
  • All I really need to know I learned in kindergarten by Robert Fulghum
  • All I know I learned as a Community Champion At Large by Barrie Crampton
6
Connectivity Infrastructure and Broadband Services
  • With few exceptions its is owned and operated by the private sector
  • If there was money to be made we would all have the broadband connectivity we need. Commonly referred to as having a business case
  • So knowing this what can we community champions do to insure that we have connected communities
7
The Connected Community
  • If we dont already have the connectivity we need and the most common reasons for the private sector not having a business case is:
  • Our population density is too low
  • We are too remote
  • I guess they both mean the same !
8
So What Is Our Action Plan
  • The Role Of The Community Champion
  • The Role Of Technology and applications as drivers
  • The Role Of The Private Sector
  • The Role Of Local Municipal Government
  • The Role Of The Provincial and Federal Governments

9
More of What Robert Fulghum Learned
  • Live a balanced life- learn some and think some..and work every day some
  • Be aware of wonder
  • When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together
10
What Barrie Learned
  • Lets hold hands and stick together
  • Lets work together and take what we have learned to make Connecting Canadians a realistic and achievable goal
  • And then we can Take a nap every afternoon
